Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) Flooring in Calgary

Luxury vinyl plank has become the default flooring for Calgary basements, rental suites and busy family homes — and for good reason. It's waterproof, kid-proof and dog-proof, it handles concrete slabs without complaint, and when it's installed flat it looks far better than the budget tag suggests.

Where LVP shines

Basements are the obvious answer: cold slab, occasional moisture, and a real risk of a washing machine line letting go. LVP handles all of that without swelling. We also install it through main floors and kitchens where the family wants one continuous floor with no transitions, and in rental and Airbnb suites where durability is the entire point.

We install rigid-core (SPC) and WPC click-lock systems, plus glue-down LVP for commercial spaces and high-traffic entries. We don't install thin floating vinyl from big-box stores — the seams telegraph every imperfection and the locking edges fail within a year or two.

Subfloor prep is the whole job

LVP is a flexible product, which means it shows every dip, hump and trowel ridge in the subfloor underneath. We grind down high spots, fill low spots with a cement-based patch, and on basements we run a moisture test on the slab before anything else. Skipping prep is why so many LVP floors creak, peak or separate within the first heating season — we don't skip it.

Underlay, expansion gaps and transitions

Some products have attached IXPE underlay; the rest get a 1.5 mm cross-linked foam underlay that controls sound and bridges minor irregularities. We leave the manufacturer-specified expansion gap at every wall and every fixed object — pipes, posts, door jambs — and cover the gap with shoe mould or a matching T-bar at transitions. No silicone-sealed perimeters, no skipped gaps, no buckled summer floors.

Rigid-core SPC by default

Stable across temperature swings — important for Calgary basements.

Slab moisture testing

Calcium chloride or relative humidity tests before we install on concrete.

Quiet underlay

1.5 mm IXPE or cross-linked foam — your downstairs neighbours will thank you.

Clean transitions

Matching T-bars, reducers and stair nosings, not bent aluminum strips.
